South Australian primary producers will finally be able to access millions of dollars under the Federal Government’s farm finance package.
“The Weatherill Labor Government bungled negotiations over the package for many long months, at great cost to South Australian primary producers,” said Shadow Agriculture Minister David Ridgway.
“Farmers in NSW, Queensland and Victoria have been eligible to apply for assistance of up to $650,000 at 4.5 per cent since the middle of the year.
“But SA farmers were denied the same access because the Weatherill Labor Government refused to sign up to an agreement with the Commonwealth.
“At last, after inordinate delays and dithering, the Weatherill Labor Government has been dragged to the table.
“Because of this delay, SA primary producers have not only been denied money they could have been getting for almost eight months, but SA has actually lost some of the available funds to other states.
“This Government runs primary industries in a permanent state of indecisive agitation.
“Time and again I urged and encouraged the Weatherill Labor Government to sign. Time again it refused.
“South Australian farmers are paying the price for Weatherill Labor’s mismanagement,” said Mr Ridgway.
