“The Labor Government’s decision to exclude Mt Gambier from a promotional film for the South East is a serious error of judgment by the Tourism Minister and his senior bureaucrats,” says Shadow Minister for Tourism David Ridgeway.
“This is like running a promotion for AFL and not including the MCG – it just beggars belief.
“I was recently in Mt Gambier and met with tourism operators who voiced their concerns about the neglect of South Australia’s second largest city by the Weatherill Labor Government.
“Tourism Minister Leon Bignell needs to step in and direct Tourism SA to shoot another film that highlights the many attractions Mt Gambier offers tourists.
“In fact Tourism SA needs to adopt a far more strategic approach to marketing Mt Gambier and the South East in general to potential tourists.
“Mt Gambier should be marketed as a natural inclusion for the droves of tourists who drive the Great Ocean Road each year.
“The fact tourists spend less money in South Australia than other states is an indictment of the Weatherill Government’s efforts to attract tourists to our beautiful state.
“Rather than making expensive television advertisements about Adelaide to show to people who live in Adelaide SA Tourism needs to begin marketing all of South Australia to potential interstate and overseas tourists.”
