The latest International Visitors Survey once again paints a very dismal picture for the tourism industry in South Australia.
The figures show that South Australia had far fewer international visitors than any other mainland state.
“This is despite our Tour Down Under, festivals and unique scenic attractions,” said Shadow Tourism Minister David Ridgway.
“Clearly there’s something wrong with the Weatherill Labor Government’s international marketing.
“NSW boasts more than three million visitors annually and Queensland and Victoria some two million each. SA manages a paltry 362,000 and the few international visitors we do get spend far less money than visitors to other states.
“The Weatherill Labor Government is failing to meet the tourism goals set down in its own State Strategic Plan.
“Then, to add insult to incompetence, Labor announced it will slash the Tourism Commission’s Budget by millions of dollars while simultaneously wasting hundreds of thousands on failed events like the disastrous Word Adelaide fiasco,” said Mr Ridgway.
